ABOUT

Giovanni Martinez is a New York City-based trumpeter known for his dynamic sound and deep-rooted passion for jazz. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, he began playing trumpet at age eight and is the great-nephew of mariachi legend Miguel Martinez. Giovanni discovered jazz in seventh grade, sparking a journey that has led him to perform with esteemed ensembles such as the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, the Herbie Hancock Institute National Peer-to-Peer Jazz Quintet, the Jon Faddis Big Band, the Frank Lacy Dectet, and the Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band. Martinez was also named an award winner of the prestigious ASCAP 2025 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Competition.

As both a bandleader and sideman, Giovanni brings energy and creativity to every performance. He leads his own small group as well as the Giovanni Martinez Big Band, showcasing his evolving artistry in New York’s jazz scene. Currently studying jazz trumpet at the Manhattan School of Music under the mentorship of Jon Faddis, Ingrid Jensen, and Scott Wendholt, he continues to refine his voice while honoring the traditions of the music.
